February 15, 1882 – May 29, 1942
Born John Sidney Blyth in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Mr. Barrymore was an American stage and screen actor regarded as a true legend from Hollywood’s Golden age. In the silent film era, he earned recognition in such pictures as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920), Sherlock Holmes (1922) and The Sea Beast (1926). When sound films were introduced, his theater-skilled voice bolstered motion pictures such as Grand Hotel (1932), Twentieth Century (1934) and Midnight (1939) – with all three having been inducted into the National Film Registry. But it is his appearance as Professor Gibbs in 1940’s THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, that secures his inclusion among the prestigious CDF Alumni.
